A general review of Austrian hostels by one of our contributors:
"We recently completed a bike ride from Passau in Germany to Vienna, and we stayed at hostels. Most of them were listed not just as youth hostels, but as "youth and family" hostels. The prices were very reasonable with a membership card (they were higher for non members) and all included breakfast. We had our own private bath and up to 6 beds in a room. We had no advance reservations and were able to enter a town and look for hostel or sometimes also a reasonably priced gasthouse or hotel. Austrian hostels all had accomodations for bicycles, as the bicycle is legitimate means of transportation in Europe. Also most of the paths which we traveled on were free of auto traffic. -John and Ellen French"
