"Rusty's Hard Time Hollow", located directly off the BlueRdige Parkway in Virginia, between Mileposts 16 and 17 (16.7 to be exact) At mile 16.7 the East side of the parkway has a gravel driveway and a Grey Pipe/Gate with Rusty's name and Appalachian Trail stickers on it. Thru-Hikers, Bicycle Tourers, section hikers, weekend campers, are welcome (although not for large organized groups). Ignore the no tresspassing signs on driveway, do heed the other signs as you head down the driveway. Since 1982 Rusty has opened his home up to more than 12,000 hikers/bicyclists. A rustic back-to-basics Applachian Mountain farm with some farm animals. Rusty's 19 acres include a cabin, bunkhouse, springhouse, outhouse, rainwater shower, hot tub, sauna and tent sites. There is no electricity, phone, or indoor plumbing. Rusty can handle up to 35 guest and is open 365 days a year. Rusty will give you the shirt off his back, so don't abuse his kindheartedness.
Donations for your stay are encouraged and appreciated since Rusty has no other income.
